The Region

Loon Bay Retreat is situated in the charming Gatineau Hills, just 60 minutes from the Parliament buildings, north of Ottawa - Canada’s capital. This picturesque area is a veritable playground for vacationers and outdoor enthusiasts alike. It is characterized by a wealth and diversity of flora, fauna, and is dotted with 50 plus lakes. It is home to over 1000 vascular plant species and over 40 varieties of trees. The Gatineau lakes provide watering grounds to over 54 species of mammals, 29 species of reptiles and amphibians, and thousands of invertebrates. A total of 237 different species of birds can be found here, including 15 endangered species such as the golden eagle and the red-headed woodpecker.
